Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time leading goalscorer in the world, has reclaimed the number 7 shirt upon his return to Manchester United.
The club announced this on Thursday evening, according to sources.
Remember that the former Manchester United forward wore the shirt from 2003 to 2009 at Old Trafford before leaving to Spain to join Los Blancos.
He scored 118 goals in 292 appearances during his first tenure, earning nine trophies including three Premier League crowns and the UEFA Champions League.
“Ronaldo inherits the number from Edinson Cavani, who wore the shirt last season and in our away success at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend,” Manchester United stated in a statement.
El Matador will switch to no. 21, the same number that our prolific scorer wears for the Uruguayan national team, because our new addition has been assigned no. 7.
