“Don Jazzy Was My Safe Space” — Tiwa Savage Reveals

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has reflected on the importance of having the right record label support, admitting she didn’t fully understand its value until after leaving Mavin Records.

Speaking candidly, the award-winning artiste revealed that during difficult moments and online controversies, she often turned to Mavin boss Don Jazzy and fellow label mates for comfort and guidance.

“Who you signed to is very important, and I didn’t appreciate it until after I left Mavin,” she said.

Tiwa recalled running to Don Jazzy’s room whenever she faced online backlash, where she would sit with other Mavin acts, talk through the situation, and sometimes break down in tears.

“Whenever there was controversy online, I’d run to Don Jazzy’s room, sit on the floor or bed with other Mavin acts, and we would talk about it. I would cry if I had to cry, and we would get through it,” she shared.

Her comments highlight the emotional support and sense of family she experienced during her time at Mavin Records.
