Lara's Faith (Episode 1)

Lara grinned as she stared in the mirror at full length, happy with what she saw. She repositioned her hips in her thin knee-length robe; she cherished her hips and considered them one of her best physical features. "Hmmm, can't wait!" she reminded herself as she oiled her cornrows. She should have fixed a weavon or plaited some braids, as her colleague Deji recommended, but she isn't a fan of artificial things and wants to go natural. She enquired of her magnificent mirror, "What's missing?" she says.
  She burst out laughing.
After five months of so-called "business trips" abroad, Tony, her husband, would be returning home. Despite the fact that their marriage has barely lasted a year, Tony has devoted more than 1/2 of their first year together traveling. She uttered a hissing noise. Their wedding had been planned, and she had met Tony for the first time on their wedding day. On that particular day, she remembered how harsh he was. She shivered at the thought. He had always made excuses when it came to making love. He'd never kissed or even touched her in his life...
The doorbell rang, interrupting her thoughts. “Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, "It's time for action!" she yelled as she stepped closer to the door. "Hey...welcome back home!" she exclaimed as he walked in. "Thank you!" Tony made a mumbling remark. She tried to hug him, but he was adamant about not doing so. With his palms raised, he screamed, "Please!"

She took a deep breath and gulped hard. Plan number one had failed. The next task is to...  "Why don't you take a cold shower?" You must be fatigued after such a long journey...err, huh, I'd be setting the table so that err...you may eat.” Lara stated that with a lovely smile on her face. Tony walked by her and into his room, oblivious to her presence. He drew Lara's attention. What would she do if he continued to detest her? As she sat on the sofa's edge, she sighed heavily. Lara  was engaged in her thoughts when his phone rang. Tony had frequently warned her not to pick up his calls, so she gazed at the phone as it vibrated on the center table, tempted but unwilling to pick it up.

“How are you doing, Baby?” says Tony. As Tony spoke over the phone, Lara's attention was pulled to him. "Yea, just arrived a few minutes ago," he said again. Lara inhaled deeply and swallowed hard. Baby? Is it possible that he simply referred to another woman as a child? "No, no, no!" "You know how much I'll miss you, sweetie," He said. Tony reiterated his point. This was a betrayal of the highest sort, as Lara abruptly rose, her rage rising with it. “Sure, honey, I'll call you later.” Okay? He lovingly cooed, "Take care sweetie," before hanging up. Lara was staring him down as he turned to face her. “Why don't you get me my dinner instead of standing there like a palm tree?” he sneered. You might be wondering, "Who is she?" Lara erupted with laughter. “I-diot,'she' has nothing to do with you!” He grew angry and yelled at her. "Move your bum into the kitchen!" he exclaimed.

Lara walked into the kitchen, no longer angry, but afraid. She was afraid of something she had no idea about. She isn't going to give up on plan number three... “So do you enjoy the food?” she asked as she watched Tony eat his dish in mouthfuls. “According to your mother, it's your favorite dish.” She went on, oblivious to his irritating quiet. Tony coughed and took a glass of water. “Please, Lara, don't interrupt me while I eat!” “Do you think it's important for me to choke?” His voice had an unpleasant tone to it. "But I..." she began, puzzled. With a sigh and a roll of the eyes, Tony expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation.

“I don't understand why this uneducated woman won't leave me alone!” He said something to the befuddled Lara in hushed tones. “Can't you see Gerrit, I don't talk on the phone while I eat?” Angry, he demanded, "Didn't your mother teach you proper dining etiquette?" “Please accept my sincere regrets.” As she went out of the dining area, Lara grumbled. Her eyes were welling up with tears, and she looked afraid. As he watched her walk away, Tony felt sorry for her. He was well aware that he shouldn't treat her in this manner! He, on the other hand, detested the marriage that his parents had forced upon him. His fury had already taken over his emotions, despite the fact that she was attractive and lovable. He loathed seeing gorgeous girls cry, and his supper had lost its savor.
