Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,
explained why he left from Nigeria in an interview with The Guardian.
He says that fleeing from the nation in September 2017 doesn’t amount to him jumping bail.
Kanu asked permission from Justice Binta Nyako to speak to
the court and present his side of the story.
After declaring that the guards broke into his residence
illegally and endangered his life, he stated that his house was illegally
invaded by security personnel who threatened his life.
The self-proclaimed Biafran leader further stated that had
he not jumped out of the country, he would have been killed with others on the
day of the invasion.
On Tuesday, at his first court appearance since 2017, the
presiding judge ordered Kanu to be detained in the custody of the SSS.
In addition, the judge authorized an accelerated hearing for
the trial in which he faces charges of treasonable felony.
