Imo State Nursing Student Found Murdered in Her Room

A promising young nursing student has been found murdered in her off-campus room in Imo State, and the circumstances surrounding her death have left her community in shock and mourning.

She has been identified as Wendy Achumba, a student of the College of Nursing, Umuadara Umulogho, in the Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State. Her body was discovered on Thursday, May 21, 2026, after neighbours grew increasingly worried when she failed to emerge from her room or respond to repeated knocks and calls throughout the day.

When their attempts to reach her proved futile, the neighbours forced their way inside her house, and what they found was devastating. Wendy was lying lifeless, her throat slit and her head nearly decapitated. What made the discovery even more chilling was that the door to her room had been locked from the inside with the key still in place, raising deeply unsettling questions about what exactly happened in that room and how her killer gained access or escaped.

Her mobile phone was not found at the scene.

Wendy, who hailed from Ngwa in Abia State, had already completed her midwifery programme and was in the final stretch of her post-basic training at the institution. She was so close to the finish line.

The Imo State Police Command has since confirmed the incident. Spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye stated that operatives visited the scene promptly after the report came in, recovered the body, and have since commenced investigations to determine the full circumstances of her death and bring those responsible to justice.

May Wendy Achumba rest in peace. 🕊️
