Trial Over Super TV CEO’s Murder Nears Conclusion As Chidinma Ojukwu’s Sister Testifies

The ongoing trial surrounding the 2021 death of Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga, appears to be nearing its conclusion as the third and reportedly final defense witness testified in court this week.

The witness, Chioma Ebuche, who is the sister of the prime suspect, Chidinma Ojukwu, gave evidence concerning a mobile phone that prosecutors say is connected to the case.

While speaking before the court, Ebuche explained that she was unaware the phone allegedly given to her by her sister had been stolen. According to her testimony, Chidinma invited her over and handed her the device, which she accepted without questioning where it came from.

During cross-examination, she maintained that she had no knowledge of the phone’s origin at the time she received it.

The case has remained in the public spotlight since 2021, when Chidinma Ojukwu was arrested following the death of Ataga, whose body was found inside a short-let apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos.

After several court sittings and adjournments over the past few years, the trial is now believed to be entering its final phase. With the defense witnesses nearly concluded, the court is expected to move closer to delivering judgment in one of Nigeria’s most talked-about criminal cases in recent years.
