Nigeria Loses N132.8 Billion In 2 Months Due To Twitter Ban

Since the Federal Government banned Twitter in Nigeria, the country has lost an estimated N132.8 billion (about $366,88 million).

Nigeria's Federal Government banned Twitter on June 4th, and the ban took effect on June 5th. The prohibition has now been in effect for 61 days.

Using the NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool to calculate the cost of the ban, Nigeria has lost $366,877,817 in 61 days.

According to the tool, every hour that Twitter is blocked, Nigeria loses $250,600.

The NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool uses indicators from the World Bank, International Telecommunication Union, Eurostat, and the United States Census to assess the economic impact of an internet outage, mobile data blackout, or app restriction in a country.
