Charlyboy, a prominent Nigerian performer and campaigner, has revealed why he took the part of ‘Odudubariba in the hit series ‘King of Boys- The Return of the King'.
Charlyboy portrayed ‘Odudubariba' in the Netflix-adopted series ‘King of Boys,' directed by Kemi Adetiba.
One of the elders at the round table, ‘Odudubariba,' plans to usurp the throne from Sola Sobowale and become the ‘King of Boys.'
Since the film's Netflix launch, Charlyboy has received praise for his journey from musician to activist to actor.
Charlyboy said in an interview that he took the role in King of Boys despite turning down other movie opportunities since he is a fan of Kemi Adetiba and it was an honor to be invited for such a role.
He stated, "
“When Kemi contacted to ask whether I wanted to be a part of this production, I said no since I'm not an actress. I, on the other hand, am a Kemi admirer who has followed her progress. As a result, getting asked for a part was a great honor. I promised myself that I would not only give it my all, but that I would also break my heart for her, submitting myself as a responsible student.
“She reminded me that my life was like a movie, and that I had been performing my entire life. Charlyboy, I'm continually repeating, 'no dey finish,' because there's so much packed into this persona that I'm only now beginning to comprehend.
“All of the possibilities that God has bestowed upon me continue to astound me, and all I can say is thank God for His Grace.
“And now we've arrived; I've always been “The King of Boys” even before the film was released.”
Charlyboy, on the other hand, admitted that he was terrified when he first heard about the cast, but that Kemi Adetiba pushed him to continue with the role, which he now enjoys.
“I must admit, hearing about the cast lineup intimidated me at first, but she said, ‘Just trust me, and you will be proud in the end.' Charlyboy added, "That was a prediction that came true."
