Sule Nana, a housewife, was detained by the Ekiti police for impersonating her own kidnapping in order to extort N50,000 from her husband.
The suspect was apprehended by personnel of the Rapid Respond Squad following a comprehensive and exhaustive investigation, according to the command's spokesperson, ASP Sunday Abutu, who displayed her among other suspects on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
According to the PPRO, RRS operatives received a distress call from Nana on November 20, 2021, claiming that she had been kidnapped by unknown gunmen along the Ifaki-Oye-Ekiti road.
"On the 20th of November, 2021, at around 1030 hours, a distress call was received from one *Sule Nana* 'f', who said that she was kidnapped by unknown gunmen along the Ifaki/Oye-Ekiti route with other passengers," Abutu said.
"She informed her husband that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 50,000 naira (#50,000:00) before she could be freed. The RRS Operatives leapt into action after receiving the report, combing the bush along Ifaki/Oye-Ekiti before discovering that Sule Nana had kidnapped herself to extort money from her relatives.
He went on to say, "She has confessed to the crime."
The suspect stated that she planned her own kidnapping in order to extort money from her husband and relatives.
"I needed money but couldn't find anyone who could help me, so I devised a plan to kidnap someone and demand a ransom." "I contacted my husband to demand N50,000 in ransom and was detained in the process," she explained.
