Spider-Man appears to have taken a break from fighting crime this week to pay a visit to Pope Francis at the Vatican in Rome.
According to Reuters, an attendee dressed as Spider-Man was seen in the VIP section of the Vatican's San Damaso Courtyard during the Pope's weekly papal audience on Wednesday, June 23.
His identity was eventually discovered to be Mattia Villardita, who was dressed in the full Marvel superhero suit. According to Reuters, he sat peacefully behind a priest and listened to the Pope's service.
Villardita, 27, was given the opportunity to see Pope Francis personally at the end of the papal audience. Pope Francis was photographed greeting Villardita and joyfully shaking his hand.
