Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, is being represented by five lawyers, one of them, Ibrahim Salami, claims that he and the other lawyers will never allow the Yoruba youth leader to be extradited to Nigeria.
Igboho was detained in Benin on Monday as he prepared to fly to Germany to meet the rest of his family.
He was charged to court right away and is being held at the Brigade économique et financière (BEF).
Sunday Igboho should be killed in Cotonou rather than sent to Nigeria to be slaughtered, according to the lawyer, who is also a professor at a university in Benin.
In an interview with the BBC on Saturday, he said,
"What is important for us, what is paramount, is to never allow the extradition of Sunday Igboho to Nigeria."
“Given what transpired in his residence and the army's threats, granting his extradition would mean sending him home to die.
“Rather than letting him go to Nigeria to be butchered like an animal, it would be preferable to keep him in Benin and kill him. That has been the source of our agitation and fight in Benin.”
