Police have arrested a 38-year-old man identified as Jakhongir Sattorov in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 59-year-old woman inside her apartment in Brooklyn, New York.
According to the New York Police Department, the suspect was taken into custody on Saturday, May 9, and charged with multiple offenses, including three counts of rape, two counts of assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and criminal mischief.
Authorities said the incident happened on Friday evening in the Bensonhurst area, where the suspect allegedly forced his way into the woman’s apartment by breaking down her door before attacking her and demanding sex.
According to police reports, the suspect allegedly attacked the woman after she refused his demand for sex. Authorities said he physically assaulted and strangled the victim during the incident, which reportedly took place around 8:30 p.m. at an apartment located near 15th Avenue and 71st Street in Brooklyn.
The 59-year-old woman later contacted the New York Police Department at about 11:15 p.m. and was transported to Lutheran Hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
Law enforcement sources revealed that the victim identified the suspect as her neighbor and stated that she knew him prior to the incident.
Sources also disclosed that the suspect has at least seven previous arrests, all reportedly linked to drug possession offenses.
Following the incident, police officers, detectives, crime scene investigators, and members of the NYPD Special Victims Squad were seen at the scene gathering evidence from the apartment.
