The 34-year-old Argentina international, whose contract expired at the end of June, has finally agreed to fresh terms, according to SPORT.
Barcelona, on the other hand, must cut their wage bill in order for Messi's new deal to be registered with La Liga.
After a breakthrough in talks with Messi's father Jorge on Monday, an announcement is likely in the coming days.
Messi has f to take a 50% wage cut from his previous deal, which was worth over £425 million over four years, due to Barcelona's severe financial situation.
Messi's weekly salary will be reduced by £250,000 on his new five-year contract.
