The federal government has warned that if people refuse to get the COVID-19 vaccine, they would face consequences.
At a news conference on Tuesday, August 31, Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, stated the Federal Government may “apply the basic rule of law” against such persons because they are risking the lives of others.
According to Shuaib, the Buhari administration is working feverishly to make vaccines more accessible to all Nigerians.
“If some people refuse to take the vaccine, jeopardizing those who have or can't because of medical exemptions, we must enforce the basic rule of law, which states that your human right ends where mine begins,” he said.
So, while you have the freedom to refuse vaccines, you do not have the right to put other people's health at risk.
The Presidential Steering Committee is working with the Federal Ministry of Health to find ways to make vaccines more accessible to all Nigerians, including federal public personnel and businesses.
“Once these vaccines are made equitably available to all Nigerians, we will need to have an open and honest conversation about the issues of justice, fairness, and liberty that surround vaccine hesitancy.”
