This Is Why I Am So Private - Beyoncé Explains

Beyonce is the cover star of Harper's Bazaar's The Icon Issue, and she discussed why she chooses to live a quiet life with the publication.

She added that it is easy to lose oneself in the entertainment industry, so she decided to keep herself alive by determining what to share with the world.

"We live in a world with few restrictions and a lot of access," she wrote in the September issue of a magazine.

"There are a lot of internet therapists, comment critics, and experts that don't know what they're talking about. Because our reality is built on a tailored algorithm, it has the potential to be distorted. It reveals whatever truths we're looking for, which is harmful.

"When we aren't given a balanced picture of what's going on in the world, we might create our own false reality. It's easy to lose sight of how much more there is to discover outside of our phones.

"I'm thankful for the freedom to share whatever I choose."

She added: "One day I decided I wanted to be like Sade and Prince. I wanted the focus to be on my music, because if my art isn’t strong enough or meaningful enough to keep people interested and inspired, then I’m in the wrong business. My music, my films, my art, my message — that should be enough."

Beyonce stated this about boundaries: "I've been conscious of drawing lines between my stage persona and my personal life throughout my career. My family and friends frequently forget about the side of me who wears stilettos until they see me perform."

The artist went on to say: "In this profession, it's easy to get lost very quickly. It absorbs your spirit and light before expelling you. Not only with celebrities, but also with producers, directors, executives, and others, I've witnessed it numerous times. It isn't suitable for everyone. Before I began, I made the decision that I would only pursue this career if my self-worth was not based solely on celebrity achievement."

Many people still misinterpret Beyonce's need for privacy, and some believe she is simply closed off, according to her.

"So much of your life in this job does not belong to you until you fight for it," she explained. "I've fought to safeguard my sanity and privacy because the quality of my life depends on it." I save a lot of who I am for the people I love and trust. Those who are unfamiliar with me and have never met me may view this as a barrier. Trust me when I say that the reason those people don't notice certain aspects of me is because my Virgo ego doesn't want them to. It isn't because it isn't there! "
