Sule in Court 9 of the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan on Monday for k!lling Ifeoluwa Apanpa, a 17-year-old girl.
It was reported that the convict r@ped and k!lled the teenager in Olódó area in Ibadan on September 17, 2022.
Justice Bayo Taiwo Sule ruled that the prosecution successfully proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, relying on witness testimonies, documentary evidence, and the defendant’s earlier confession to the police.
The court dismissed Tosin’s denial of making statements to the police, describing it as an afterthought.
The tragic case dates back to September 2022, when Ifeoluwa’s lifeless body was discovered by the roadside with blood-stained underwear. Investigations began after the suspect’s mother reportedly found the victim’s phone with her son and informed the victim’s pastor.
During the trial, the prosecution presented four witnesses, including the deceased’s father, pastor, and police officers involved in the investigation. Although Tosin later denied the allegations in court, the judge held that the evidence against him was compelling and left no room for acquittal.
Justice Sule stated that the law provided no alternative punishment for murder and consequently sentenced him to death by hanging, while also imposing life imprisonment for the rape charge.
The convict was 20 years old at the time the crime was committed.
