“I Want To Be A One-Term President For Stability" - Peter Obi

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi has reiterated that he would serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027, saying he would not remain in office beyond that period “even with a gun to my head.”

Speaking during an interview with News Central TV, Obi said his decision is based on the need for political stability and adherence to power rotation principles in Nigeria.

“I want to be a one-term president for stability. I will not stay a day longer than four years, even with a gun to my head,” Obi said.

Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the Labour Party and finished third, is reportedly positioning himself for another presidential run in 2027. Reports indicate he is now aligned with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which recently zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.

There is also growing speculation that former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso could emerge as Obi’s running mate if he secures the NDC presidential ticket.
