LARA'S FAITH (EPISODE 27)

Lara lay strewn on the ground till dawn, unable to move because she was too weak. She was shocked she had made it through the night.

The contractions on her pelvis had stopped, and she touched her belly. She reasoned that her baby might be dead.

She muttered aloud, "God forbid." She isn't going through all of this for naught.

She sat up with effort to assess her surroundings. She was sitting behind a home in what appeared to be a small farm. Was she back to square one? She held her breath. She noticed a young child leaving the home to relieve himself. She moved behind a row of cassava plants... The boy's attention was drawn to the shuffling sound, and he turned to glance around before walking towards the farm. “Who are you?” he said aggressively. Lara kept her gaze fixed on him, unable to speak. “I say, who are you?” he inquired once again.

What would Lara say if she remained silent? Her abdomen swelled and she let out a piercing scream.

The youngster appeared to be terrified. He dashed towards his home.

“Maami…maami…

“Come and see o, one woman like that,” he said as he dashed away.

“Obirin-woman? What is she doing at that location? Ehn?” A chubby woman bolted from the house.

“Who are you?” she inquired, bending to look at Lara.

Lara was unable to respond, instead pointing to her abdomen as she writhed in anguish. The message was received by the woman.

“Jide! Oh, Jide! Make a phone call to your father.” She yelled at her child.

“Yee! “Mo ku!” Lara yelled.

“Are you Yoruba?” the woman said quietly.

“My tummy! “My legs, my legs, my legs, my legs, my legs, my legs, my legs, my legs, my legs Lara screamed angrily. She was about to give birth. The woman's husband emerged, and the two of them assisted Lara into the home.

::::::*********:::::::

Tony looked out his bedroom window at their miniature garden. Another day has passed with no news from Lara.

He'd been experiencing nightmares recently, and everything seemed to be a bad omen.

He muttered loudly, "I wonder why that girl is so ill-lucked."

He hoped to catch a glimpse of her alive. He was jerked back to reality by a disturbance from the parlor. There were a few squabbles going on.

“So, after everything your son did to my buddy, he still needed to use her for rituals!” Deji screamed angrily.

“Useless Igbos!” exclaims the narrator. Weere! “Awon Olori buruku!” exclaims the narrator. Funke made a clapping motion with her hands.

“Mum? “What the hell is going on here?” Tony inquired of his mum.

“These people have just walked in...” Amara attempted to explain herself.

“Useless, powerless eediot!” Deji threw a punch at him.

“Oh, please produce my pal for me!”

“What is all this commotion about?” This isn't supposed to be happening.” Tony struggled to maintain his composure.

“Oshi, may Sango strike you down! Who is chaos, exactly? Produce my pal o!” if you know what's good for you. Deji let out a shriek.

“Of course! Deji omo omo omo omo omo o Show these obnoxious Igbos that Yorubas aren't cool!” She was cheered up by funke.

“For the sake of peace, please leave right now.” Tony stated emphatically.

“Where are you going to leave? I'll show you because I was born and raised in Ajegunle! You don't appear to know who I am, Deji toh badt, the female counterpart of an agbero!” Deji gave a demonstration in front of them.

Tony told his mother, who was crying, to "please go inside."

“No way, o! You're not going anywhere! Omolara, Omolara, Omolara, Omolara, Omolara, Omolara We want her now, dead or alive!” Deji was ranting.

Tony's mind spun; he was too frail to face such danger. It's hard to believe Lara isn't there to help him. He sagged to the ground slowly.

“Tony…To…” Amara dashed over to her child.

“You haven't seen anything yet, Sango is going to kill you one by one.” Deji clapped her hands.

“Let's go!” she exclaimed as she led Funke out of the house.

“Are you all OK, Tony?” Amara gave him a firm shake.

He softly sobbed as he shook his head gently in anguish. He simply hopes his worst fear doesn't come true.
