“Please assist me... I…don’t…want…to…to…die. Please” Lara begged the weird family that had gathered around her. She was already losing a lot of blood.
They drove her to the hospital; the trip was long, and Jide's father had to carry her on his back because she couldn't walk. She was transferred to the intensive care unit of the hospital. The doctor inquired of the family, “Where is her husband?”
“We have no idea, o!” This is the first time we've seen her.” Baba Jide elaborated.
“She has lost a lot of blood...
The doctor shook his head and said, "It's going to be difficult for her..."
“Doctor, please help her.” Mama Jide begged for mercy.
Before heading to Lara's room, the doctor stated, "We'll try our hardest, just pray."
………
“Nurseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee As she struggled, Lara yelled.
“Please, sweetheart....
“I understand, just a little push...please,” the nurse reassured her.
Lara wished and hoped and desired and wished and wished and wished and wished and Tony was beside her, and she desperately needed soothing words. She was in labor and trying to give delivery.
“Yes...we're making progress...put in more effort...” the nurse encouraged her.
The doctor whispered to the nurse, "She's going to have twins..."
They were heard by Lara. “Twins? Haaaaa! noooo! God will not be so cruel to me!” She was terrified and shouted.
The nurse announced, "The baby's head is out."
The doctor said, "Push harder!"
She gave birth to twins successfully, and she soon forgot about her pains. The nurse presented her with a baby wrapped in a blanket.
The nurse said, "It's a girl!"
“What about the other one?” Lara had inquired.
Sadly, the nurse stated, "It was a boy."
“Was?” Lara inquired further.
“Please accept my apologies...
He died just a few minutes after the baby was born...” the nurse clarified
Patted her on the back and said, "Take heart."
Lara smiled; why would she cry if she couldn't? She wrapped her arms around her child.
She muttered to the nurse, "I'm pleased to have simply her."
The nurse informed her, "Your family has come to meet you."
“Family?” Lara was perplexed. Suddenly, the door opened...
“Congratulations,” they said in unison.
Lara grinned. Family? They were, indeed, her new family! They were the ones who took her to the hospital and saved her life!
“Thank you, Madam, sir.”
“O ga oo!” exclaims the narrator. “This baby, he's a big gan!” Jide's mother took a close look at the infant.
“We were unable to introduce ourselves earlier due to a lack of time.” Jide's father gave a kind smile.
He added quietly, “My name is Shina, this is my wife Ronke, and this is my kid Jide.”
He explained, "We're from this village, kokotoro."
Lara introduced herself as Omolara Popoola.
“I'm not sure where I am, although my husband and I used to live in Lagos... Lara explained, tiredly, "Before...I was kidnapped."
“Kidnapped? Haaa! When? How?” Ronke let out a shriek.
“It's a long story...” says the narrator. With a shake of her head, Lara expressed her dissatisfaction with the situation.
:::::::::*****::::
As her baby's mouth grabbed her nipple, Lara closed her eyes in anguish.
Ronke murmured softly, "Kpele."
Lara nodded, they were a family after all. The family is a model of kindness in and of itself. She ate free food, her baby wore free clothes, and she had a good time with them for the past two weeks.
“You don't want to give your daughter a name, do you? You're basically referring to her as a baby.” Ronke was irritated.
As she rocked her baby, Lara grunted, "Uhn."
“That's not the way it's done.” Ronke took the baby from her and started rocking it till it burped.
“This morning, Baba Jide and I had a discussion...” Ronke drew nearer to Lara.
“We've made the decision to return you to your family.”
“I presume you still recall your address,” says the narrator.
“Thank you, but I have no idea how to get out of here.” Lara clarified.
“A friend of Baba Jide's owns a car, and we'll pick you up whenever you're ready.” Ronke stated it once more.
“Thank you so much,” says the speaker. Lara was overjoyed. The prospect of returning home seemed appealing.
She hugged Ronke and said, "Thank you, mum."
She imagined what it would be like if she could spend time with Tony once more.
