LARA'S FAITH (EPISODE 23)

As she pushed a trolley through the mall, Lara wiped sweat from her brow. Tony had always encouraged them to go out together, however she was shopping alone.

He's turning into adhesive! She pondered. She simply does not want someone from the Adam generation hovering over her.

As she studied a newborn feeding bottle, she stated aloud, "Nice."

She tossed it into the cart with the eleventh feeding bottle she was purchasing. Money isn't an issue, as Tony stated, because their child is deserving of everything.

“Please tell me what this is for,” she inquired of a woman adjacent to her.

“Ooh! With a smile, the mother added, "It's exactly like a box; you can keep your baby's feeding stuff in it."

“Thank you,” Lara replied, tossing it back into her trolley.

Before walking to the cashier's desk, she double-checked that the trolley was full, and the security personnel assisted her in transporting the products to the waiting car.

She was hungry, and luckily the mall had a restaurant. She excused herself from the driver and dashed off to get something to eat.

She chewed her food gently till she noticed anything.

A blond wig on a dusky woman! Why can't black folks grasp that those wigs made them seem like black mermaids? she wondered quietly. She pondered. The woman stood up from her seat, and their gazes locked.

“Hey, Deji!”

Deji replied, "Hello Lara."

“How have you been?” “It's been a long time, how have you been?” Lara smiled as she approached her.

“I've been like the Deji you remember!” Deji responded with a sneer.

“I'm delighted to see you, so please sit at my table!” Lara attempted to restrain her.

“No, I have to leave right now!”

“Oh, Deji, come on! Is there a disagreement between us? Lara seemed concerned as she said, "You've been acting weirdly."

“Please, Lara! Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please

“Okay…” Lara let out a sigh.

“So you're expecting a child?” Deji scowled.

“Who did the job, then?” Come on, Tony, your gateman, your father-in-law, your driver, or your....come on, tell me!” She took note of Lara's protruding stomach.

“Did you lose track of the fact that I'm married?” Lara feigned a grin.

“Oh no!”  I didn't forget about your husband's incapacity!” Deji made a remark.

Lara sank her teeth into the inside of her bottom lip.

“Deji…” Her tone was hushed.

“You're causing me pain!” Put an end to it! I mean, I thought you were a friend. That was cruel...but Tony is fine now.”

“Wow, that's incredible!” Allow me to not squander too much of my time! I wish you the best of luck.” Deji turned away and walked away.

Lara clutched Deji's hand and said, "Deji, tell me what's going on."

“Nothing! Just that....we, I believe. We can't be pals anymore! Gerrit, you're not in my class, you're married, and I'm not?” Deji spoke rashly.

“Does it make a difference?” Lara spoke in hushed tones.

“Yes, it does! Please keep your distance from me!” Deji took a step back.

Lara stood there watching her friend go away, hoping Deji didn't mean what he said; something wasn't right.

Is it true that people change so easily? What was the matter with the entire world?

Her mother went from terrible to worse, Tony went from bad to good, and now Deji is morphing into a creature she's never seen before...

As she sat in her automobile, Deji took a deep breath.

“So Lara is expecting?” she wondered aloud.

“I didn't know since her mother didn't tell me!” I'm sure she requires my assistance!” she enquired aloud

Jealousy and resentment rushed through her veins.

Naturally, she had never been happy since Lara married.

She was beginning to feel satisfied when Tony mistreated her; she desperately wanted Lara to remain single, but she had to put on a show to cover it up. She couldn't pretend to be that "caring friend" any longer; she was suddenly a jealous friend.

She'll do everything she can to assist Funke in getting Lara out of that place. She gave a thoughtful nod.

She took out her phone.

“How are you, Veejay?” she inquired.

“Are you in town?”

She paused for a moment, listening intently.

She finished the call with, "OK, I'm coming over."

“I apologize, Lara...

Deji isn't a real pal!” She muttered as she drove away.
