Lara touched her bloated stomach carelessly, oblivious to the smells of the dinner her mother-in-law was preparing. Tony had asked his mother over because she-Lara was close to giving birth, and Amara had taken over the kitchen since she
moved in a few weeks before. She imagined what she would have done if she hadn't had her mother-in-law in the household. It's just her and her husband's people, with no relatives, mother, or friends.“Make sure you eat it all!” Next to Lara, Amara poured a tiny dish of boiling pepper soup.
“Wow! “Is it just me?” Lara had inquired.
“Are there any pregnant women in this house?” “Oya, eat!” Amara was the one who responded.
“I'm not hungry yet!” Lara pouted, pleading for some attention.
“Please, Lara, my only daughter, the mother of my unborn grandson, the...” Amara was the first to speak.
“Hey! ”Enough, mother! ” Lara laughed as she scooped up some of the delicacies.
She rolled her eyes and said, "Tastes wonderful."
“I've heard,” says Amara. Amara took a seat next to her.
“What's with the back pain? “How are things going now?”
Lara made a look that said, "Not much better."
Amara massaged her back gently and said, "Sorry."
“I suppose I should go for a walk.” Lara spoke quietly.
“All right, I'll get ready now, and I'll accompany you.” Amara pushed herself up to her feet.
“Follow? No! I prefer to walk by myself.” Lara objected.
“But…”
“Don't worry, mum,” Lara comforted her, “I'll be fine, just a few meters and I'll be back.”
Lara strolled with her feet dragged gently, one hand holding her waist and the other stroking her tummy. When she arrived at the end of the street, there was a lot of traffic. She stood there for a long, listening to hooting sounds and watching some aggressive drivers before deciding to return.
Instead of taking the same path as before, she took a shortcut.
She strolled carefully into an empty alley; she was familiar with it, despite Tony's repeated warnings to avoid it. She was halfway down the alley when she noticed a car waiting at the end; she turned around and saw another automobile waiting at the opposite end.
She was a little jittery. She walked on after saying a few silent prayers.
She gasped in terror as she felt a hand grasp her from behind a few yards from the alley's end.
She noticed two men attempting to transport her to the car she had seen before.
Was she going to be kidnapped? She yelled and screamed, screamed and cried and screamed and screamed
“Give me a break!” She fought valiantly, but she was overwhelmed.
She felt something wet on her face, and then everything went black.
::::::*****:::::
Lara stared into space, wishing a million times that she could wake up from this nightmare. She stared at her tethered hands and legs, knowing she would never be able to free herself. She could feel the kid fluttering about in her stomach, which meant she needed to eat. The last thing on her mind was food.
Who would want to kidnap a woman who is expecting a child? She pondered.
Maybe they're planning to use her in some sort of rite. The individuals who took her, however, appeared to be well-known assassins, not ritualists.
As her gaze roamed across the filthy room cluttered with beer bottles and cigarettes, she felt compelled to vomit.
She fought the urge to puke because she was afraid her baby would escape via her mouth.
“Uhhhhn...uhhhhn, gbooo,” She threw up.
“What happened there?” A masculine voice remarked.
“So you puke?” He inquired as he entered.
“You do a fantastic job! So you go sit inside the vomit till the people who are going to kill you come!” he yelled violently.
“Kill?” Lara's pupils dilated.
“Siddon, dey asking me!”
“Please don't kill me...” she begged
“If you need money, my...my...my....husband would pay any amount you require,” she sobbed.
“You dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey dey de We need that pikin who dey your belle to give us money since we don't fit count!” Before exiting the room, he scoffed at her.
Lara sobbed, puzzled as to why she had to go through all of this. She looked around but saw no way out.
Her baby had shifted once again. After 30 minutes of attempting, she used her teeth to loosen the ropes around her hands. With her damaged hands, she stroked her stomach.
“Baby…
Are you present? Can you hear what I'm saying?” She was in tears.
The baby kept moving about.
“For the time being, I'd advise you to remain still!” Her tummy was tapped.
The baby was moving more quickly. She felt its love rush through her once more, and she remembered Tony's delight whenever the baby moved. She was curious as to what was going on at her residence; perhaps they were looking for her. She was deep in an unfamiliar wilderness, so they might never locate her.
